I am a senior accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Supervisor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work to their Code of Ethics. Please see their website at www.bacp.co.uk I am also listed independent counsellor on the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors (UKRC).
What I offer.
I am able to offer my clients the experience I have gained from working concurrently in NHS for over 18 years and a private practice for 16 years. In those years I have continued to offer Counselling, Psychotherapy and Supervision.
I work from a Humanistic approach with a theory base of Transactional Analysis (UKATA) I also use some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) These tools help clients understand their internal process and in the understanding of the origin of their values and their way of interacting with others they are then able to decide if they wish to make any changes or not. I maintain my level of expertise by continuing ongoing development.
I prefer to work face to face, this helps us to connect on several levels. I can support face to face work with telephone sessions if appropriate.
I work with adults, individuals and couples. Couples can be any two people who are in a relationship and having difficulties. This can be traditional couples, partners, or two individuals from the same family. I work with a Cognitive Behavioural model (CBT) with couples. We consider together, thoughts, emotions and behaviours on which the relationship is based..
I offer short term work for clients who wish to work in a very focused way. This will usually require between 6-10 sessions. Sometimes this will be used by the client as a taster to see if they wish to embark on longer term work.
Longer term work allows us to address issues that are deeper seated in our personal process and it is this work that allows the client to become aware of how they may wish to make some adjustments to the way they interact with the rest of the world in order to feel and live a more fulfilling life. This work is open ended, with agreed regular reviews.
At the initial session once we have agreed to work together, we will then contract for the focus of our work. This focus may shift during our time together, and we will always work to ensure your needs are being met. I will regularly review our work to ensure that our sessions are being helpful.
I also offer Supervision to individuals and groups of up to four. As a supervisor I aim to provide a safe supportive space for the supervisee to explore the work they are doing with the knowledge that I am there to ensure best practice is maintained and to share any understanding I have which I think may be worth consideration. It is also the ethical place to discuss any fears or doubts the supervisee may have regarding their work I would hope the supervisee would leave supervision feeling encouraged and re-energized with some new ideas for their work with their clients. I offer supervision for therapists working with couples, including couple therapy for depression
